But first:
THE SOCIAL NETWORK
First Off:
I liked it. Yeah, I'm not going to make you wait until the end of the review for you to know what I thought of the movie. I felt it was a pretty well-made movie. This a movie that I've been wanting to see because of all the good things I've heard of it and it didn't disappoint. It was unique, smart,
and somehow entertaining which is weird for a movie about the origin of Facebook. I don't know much about acting but I can safely say that it was pretty good, too.
Backlash & Feedback:
this is where I ramble on about other things related to the movie besides the movie itself. You can skip this part if you want.
A lot of people like to talk about the "based on a true story" aspect of the story. It's understandable. Historical accuracy is important when said history happened 6 years ago and the main character is still alive. To me, whether or not it is unfair, fair or heavily romanticized doesn't interest me that much besides that point I just made. I bring this up because people knowing that this movie is what it's about, will probably not be interested in a dramatic interpretation of something that was most likely way more boring in real life. I invite those people to remember that these kind of movies aren't trying to make real life less boring. The stories simply inspire movie writers to share their thoughts on them in their own light. I can assure that when you see it at least one of you( I like to avoid making any big promises) will be impressed by what they see.
Final Thoughts:
The writing was what shined for me. I now want to know what other movies this guy made. He made things that are usually boring interesting. He took a few guys who run a website into interesting characters. So that's what made the movie for me: the writing.
Recommending Time:
I recommend this movie to people who:
- Love great writing
- Are into stories about internet and/or business
- Love stories about relationships whether it's friendship or romance
SCORE
B-
(Yeah, I'm going with letter grades.)
